new leadership and has written about them here:
Leaders Do The Work
It is my belief that before you can lead, you must learn to follow. I define leadership as the art of getting things accomplished through engaging others effectively. As an inspired and devoted educator, I strive to live up to these principles every day. As an educator having worked in the Kansas City, Missouri School District (KCMSD), I did the work of teaching our scholars. It is the limitless potential of our scholars that inspires me and when I am elected to the KCMSD Board, I will ensure along with my fellow board members that we are enacting policies which are focused principally on the well being of our scholars.
Leaders Have A Following
The great philosopher Lao Tzu is quoted as saying, "To lead the people, walk behind them". As a teacher and now as a candidate for school board I am first and foremost a servant of our community, devoted principally to our scholars and their educational success. It has been my experience that people follow sincere, devoted leaders who step up to get the work done.
Once elected I will continue to share my vision with citizens of Kansas City as a school board member. I will continue to engage our parents, scholars and stakeholders in the process that we must undertake to reform our school district. It will take all of us working together to ensure that we finally transform our district into one that our children deserve.
Leaders Are Committed To Unity
The future of our school district depends upon our community's ability to come together. As a potential school board director, I have the responsibility to utilize my leadership among the teaching community, my ability to navigate the issues that parents feel are dire, to partner with tax payers and businesses to ensure that they have a voice and also feel valued. Building unity is one of the most challenging aspects of leadership, but the only way to ensure that our scholars have opportunities that are brighter tomorrow than they are today. I am committed to unity and working to ensure we have a school board which focuses on value and integrity, because our children deserve better.
Leaders Are Committed To Results
I am running for school board, because I want the students in the Kansas City Missouri School District to succeed. I am passionate about making sure that every single one of our scholars is afforded the opportunity for academic excellence.
My life's passion has been devoted to results that show real value for our children. I have worked many summers teaching our children reading and have been directly responsible for increasing the reading grade levels in over 100 of our scholars. As a teacher in the district my administrators could rely on me to consistently and effectively raise test scores in reading. I am currently a board member of the Kansas City Sister Cities, where I work to increase opportunities for our students to represent Kansas City and to learn about international cultures, trade, and development through youth exchanges. At the bottom of my heart I want every one of our scholars to have all the tools necessary to do their very best and will continue to work to make this possible, because our children deserve the best.
Leaders Are Committed To Governance
President Roosevelt once said: "The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it." As a leader on the board I will ensure for the sake our scholars that the board does the work of governance and not micromanagement. I am committed to supporting our community and to providing transparent, accountable governance for our superintendent and our community.
