JOSEPH JACKSON

To learn more about Joseph Jackson, visit his campaign website at www.joseph4kcmsd.com. As a graduate of KCU4EA's School Board School, Jackson learned about the the five principles of new leadership and has written about them here:

Leaders Do The Work
I have been a highly involved parent, parent leader and parent advocate for almost nine years. I have served as the School Advisory Committee Chairperson at Longan French Magnet and Central High School. I am in my second term as the Member at Large of the District Advisory Committee or (DAC) and I am Chairperson of the Kansas City Missouri School District Title I Committee. To increase scholar achievement, I will push for new policies and revisions in the curriculum that prepare our scholars for college, increase ACT test scores or prepare them to go directly into the work force with a trade skill they learned in high school.

Leaders Have A Following
I am retired from the United States Air Force. In my military career I was called upon to lead on many occasions. I served with a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Force during the bombing of Kosovo. I lead a multi-national military force that was responsible for feeding over 1,000 people per day. In leadership school, I was awarded the John L. Levitow Award for the top leader and student. If elected I will push for the school board to hold quarterly meetings in the different areas of the city to meet with the parents and scholars with whom I already work. This will allow us to listen to parents and community concerns, increase enrollment and scholar achievement by decreasing problems that interfere with our scholars' education.

Leaders Are Committed To Unity
As a member of the military, commitment, service before self and duty were the core values I learned and still carry with me to this day as I visit the schools and work to improve the district. There is no I in team. Parents, the district and our community must have unity and work together for the education and success of each and every scholar.

Leaders Are Committed To Results
I have never put my personal interests or those of any subgroup ahead of any organization in which I have served, nor will I ever. As a parent, I would never put any subgroup or the personal interests of anyone above the mission of the district and the education of all our scholars. If elected I will work to ensure that all contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, unless there is a reason for sole source justification and for the contract to be awarded to a bidder other than one with the lowest bid.

Leaders Are Committed To Governance
I have consistently worked with school officials first and never attempted to micromanage in the last eight years in my position as a parent leader and parent advocate. If elected I will push for changes in board policy. If I have any concerns, I would address them with the Superintendent personally, but I would never interfere in daily operations of the district.
